Critics Consensus

xXx: Return of Xander Cage should satisfy fans of the first two installments, but its preponderance of set pieces can't quite make up for a tired storyline that fails to take the franchise -- or action fans -- anywhere new.

This is only slightly less dumb and nonsensical than the previous films, but it teems with thrilling action sequences and rollicking stunt work from the middle-aged Diesel and martial artist Donnie Yen.

Hardcore porn for action junkies, xXx: Return of Xander Cage should also get a rise out of more casual viewers burned out on Oscar bait and looking for a mindless time at the movies.

Since the majority of the movie resembles a long, stylized music video, the DJ just might be the most important recruit of them all.

Oh my God is this a bad movie. The acting is ridiculous. The scenes are ridiculous and physics foes not seem to exist.

Vin Diesel movies are always a must see for us! Love the fast action, adrenaline and great skateboarding, fast motorcycles; as always -- Pure entertainment at its best!

A bit off with it's action the action wouldn't really be considered as action because nearly all of it is CGI which really kind of takes the fun out of it. Still it has an insane plot and mindless action which is enough to keep you entertained.

WHY?! the original one was at least so bad it was kinda' good. this one, no. the same ugly coat, the same neck tattoo shots. boring, stale, and zero of the bit of charm the first one had. i'm sorry i tried to watch this.

Was there ever a time when Extreme Sports was ever a draw for action fans? The only time I can think of when it sort of worked was the original Point Break. The first xXx was cashing in on a nonexistent desire to see an extreme sports her action star, xXx: State of the Union didn't care about any of that, and now, 16 years after the first one, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage banks on a nonexistent nostalgia. Make no mistake, there are some pretty cool shots (mixed in with horrendous CGI), but the obvious money grab (by not only Hollywood, but Shanghai as well) makes the movie less necessary than it ever needed to be.
