Critics Consensus

Zombi 2 is an absurdly graphic zombie movie legendary for some gory scenes and nothing in between.

[the remaster] looks a whole lot better than the bootlegged version lost down the back of the sofa in the video nasty era, but apart from its iconic zombie-vs.-shark sequence, it has little to offer today's audience beyond nostalgia for its own sake Go to Full Review

Kylo P Jan 31, 2019 I kind of feel bad calling myself a horror movie person but not enjoying this film. In fact, I was pretty pumped when I grabbed up my Blue Underground DVD of this, and yet I found myself wondering what the fuss was about. That being said, the zombies in this movie are my type of zombies. Rotting, gross, disgusting and monstrous. I think the saturation of the zombie movie in the last decade has made us lose sight of them being an actual monster and not just fodder. Also, the shark fighting a zombie underwater scene on paper sounds like a joke but is filmed in such a way that I felt like everyone involved was in real danger. Talk about naked Scuba going wrong. In fact usually, anything to do with the zombies in this movie I enjoyed, but that's the problem, they are all I enjoyed. I don't expect my plots to be deep from a Z film, so this one works just fine. A reporter and woman investigate the disappearance of said woman's dad on his tropical island. Good enough for me, yet the characters and story just kind of meander around with the odd shot of a body in a sheet or zombie being shot. It just felt jumbled. It didn't flow forward, and we even start the movie with a flashback that we return too in another flashback. Also, dull one-note characters don't help the story either. There was Boat driver, and reporter, daughter of researcher and woman who hates clothes. None of them were compelling or even interesting to watch. So, really the only highlights were the zombies, who disappear for a large chunk of the middle of the film. Anyways, I was bummed out not liking this, as it seems to have a large amount of praise everywhere I see it. Oh well, Zombie, Zombi 2 or Zombie Flesh Eaters is an alright film where at least the zombies themselves are the highlight. As a horror fan, it is probably a must-see, as well as for Zombie fans. Han M Oct 11, 2018 Lucio Fulci is said to be one of the legendary italian horror director. I feel disapointed to say that one of his supposedly most famous film was an horror to watch. Firstly, the movie contain scenes so illogical it approach the absurds. I am still trying to figure out the credibility of the underwater shark fight scene. Secondly, the acting is just bad enough to amplify the fact that nothing that happen in the movie is even believable. The only things that were good in the movie was the gorish aesthetic of Fulci which we can find in his way better films ( The beyond, City of the living dead ) and the lengendary soundtrack produced by Fabio Frizzi. Zombi 2 is for me a perfect example of what to avoid if you want to be credible in your art. See more
Harry W Sep 7, 2018 Lucio Fulci's masterpiece. Not for nothing, I'm almost positive he hates eyeballs about as much as Dario Argento loves Iron Maiden. Because hooooolyyy shit.. See more
George W Dec 30, 2017 another great italian classic
Albus S Dec 20, 2017 Made in the attempt to serve as a "sequel" to George A. Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" (known in Italy as "Zombi"), Lucio Fulci's "Zombi 2" (or "Zombie") is a pretty decent horror film - the gore is pretty strong & the scares pretty much make an impact, but the story doesn't really have anything in common with "Dawn of the Dead" & the acting is a bit weak. Nevertheless, "Zombi" is a so-so horror film that might satisfy zombie & horror fans. See more
Luke P Sep 30, 2017 The completely unrelated sequel to Night of the Living Dead that features much bad acting & more gore & Zombies. Frankly a ridiculous story of an unmanned boat that appears in the harbor of NYC & note is left in the boat explaining of a terrible curse on a nearby island overseas. Filled with some funny & somewhat clever kills but it's the final showdown with the zombies you hold out for...fun, gory & sadly the 35mm is extremely red & faded I would advise the Home Video versions.
