Filmmakers Jovanka Vuckovic, Annie Clark, Roxanne Benjamin and Karyn Kusama present four horrific tales of terror. In "The Box," a boy starts to display strange behavior after looking inside a mysterious gift box. In "The Birthday Party," a woman refuses to let an untimely death ruin her son's bash. In "Don't Fall," an innocent camping trip turns deadly, and in "Her Only Living Son," a mother must deal with the child from hell.

Critics Consensus

XX's array of distinct female filmmaking voices -- and the empowerment their collection represents -- offer enough thrills to make up for the overall uneven quality that plagues most anthology projects.

Little White Lies

Framed by pretty banal animation, the film as a whole reflects a rather limited vision of womanhood, with three shorts focused solely on mothers. That XX proves patchy is a disappointment, particularly as it is a noble project.

The four narratives ... achieve varying levels of black comedy and terror with an emphasis on women's issues.

A real life Treehouse of Horror, if you will, XX has a distinct throwback feel to it all, part TV horror, part vintage creepiness and though it doesn’t feel like a cohesive movie, there’s enough in each short to entertain, if not to outright terrify

The promising concept behind XX draws our interest from start to finish, and the arrangement assures that, if we don't like the current segment, a new one is just a few minutes away.

An anthology with 3 stories, None were scary and all of them felt incomplete. I understand that its hard to have a complete story i an anthology, but they had approximately 25min each. Other shows like The Twilight Zone did a great job with less than 30min, so thats no excuse.
