What to Know

Critics Consensus

Wristcutters: A Love Story sounds like a normal enough indie flick. Boy meets girl. Boy gets separated from girl. Boy goes on a road trip with friends to find girl and gains a new perspective on life. Except everybody's dead.

It misses the opportunity to examine why a community of people - each of whom has already given up on life - would band together to form a new society of desperate misfits. Go to Full Review

It is a staggeringly awful road movie, not much enlivened by the presence of Tom Waits as a wizened participant. Go to Full Review

The purgatorial premise is pleasingly eccentric but, in the end, Wristcutters falls victim to its washed-out mood, and limps bloodlessly to a close. Go to Full Review

Hermione M Apr 3, 2018 Rather bland movie, with little to no comedy and romance. Doesn't at all satisfy the need to talk about the ethical side of suicide. The message is clear, delivered with zero subtelty right in your face, but it is a completely unoriginal life-affirming message of a 10-year-old. See more
Leia S Jan 30, 2018 This film is not for everyone for sure but I liked it. It is very quirky and strange and at times abstract but it works and I thought the casting was excellent. All the actors did a great job. This is the kind of movie you need to watch more than once. After the first viewing you might think "WTF did I just see?" and then upon second viewing..."I get it". At least that's how I felt and yes I have watched it more than once. Definitely not mainstream....so if you are mainstream you might want to pass this one up....but if you appreciate the strange and unusual and an alternative look at life (and uh, life after death), then give this one a try. Ron M Aug 25, 2017 Creative, macabre, and romantic. Patrick Fugit, Shea Wingham, and Shannyn Sossamon are fantastic. The film is darkly satisfying. See more
Hermione L Jul 19, 2017 Comforting to a person who has a crippling fear of death and the concept of eternity. This film really makes you think and is just all-around incredible. The setting is beautiful and the cinematography is fantastic! And can't forget to include the fact that it has lovable characters. Lovely film!!! See more
Finn S Feb 25, 2017 I can only admire the dreaminess of this very dark concept. Love the whole feeling of the movie, definitely one of my favourites. The OST also contributes as one of the strengths of this movie! See more
Kylo P Feb 15, 2017 Wristcutters is a uniquely genius comedy that takes a serious topic and makes it one of the best little-hearted movie I've seen in a good long time. Sure this movie goes through the tireless trope of guy goes on road trip to find girl but it does it in a way where you're mind is on other things more important. The laughs are not forced but awesome, the use of character development is up to par, and the message of love life to the fullest and never force it only shines with everything around it. I only have to say I'm excited when I own this and watch it here and there for how really good it really is. "B+" is my final grade with a full recommendation See more
