Critics Consensus

Though Wolf Creek is effectively horrific, it is still tasteless exploitation.

Women in horror movies are always the ones most brutalized, sure, but what McLean does to Magrath and Morassi borders on pure amoral hatred. Go to Full Review

This combined adaptation of serial Bradley Murdoch and Ivan Milat's crimes is often difficult to watch, but McLean's direction and understanding of horror is on full display. Jarratt has crafted an iconic villain for the ages. Go to Full Review

Stylishly crafted but utterly empty, with a reputation for shock-horror it doesn’t really earn. Go to Full Review

Abraham S Apr 14, 2019 The beginning of Wolf Creek was never ending. Greg McLean tried too hard to create suspense by dragging out the story of the characters, of their connections with each other and them stopping in gas stations and talking to old men who are out of touch with society, etc, etc. Honestly the relationship between characters, Liz Hunter and Ben Mitchell was bloody awkward to say the least. Their kiss gave me chills, the wrong kind. The psychotic killer, Mick Taylor played by John Jarratt was far too funny in my opinion to be the bad guy. Although he certainly pulled off the unstable, lunatic visage but as for murdering people. I just couldn't see it. The female characters had a really good shot to attack and end this movie earlier back when Liz had shot the maniac Mick on the side of the neck. Although she does try to fire another bullet, this time aiming straight for the head (which I give her credit for) she then starts 'beating' him on the back instead of delivering numerous blows to the head. I just wished Greg let the females give Mick a good kick in. After all of their aimless blows, in the end Ben makes the easy escape and gets saved. *Heavy Sigh* See more
Luke W Apr 3, 2019 A solid thriller with horror scattered throughout
Harry M Mar 2, 2019 Despite the same dull cliched bad decisions that we were expecting it still is thrilling, it gathered the perfect cast for every character and the plot, even if sometimes seems forced, is nerve wrecking. See more

Feb 5, 2019 A must see for those, who like slasher movies.
Hermione M Dec 30, 2018 This film does have a few good horrific and disturbing moments, but to few of them and a really disappointing ending.
