Nov 28, 2018 Love it. And rewatched it many times
Jul 24, 2018 Not a great movie. The story was OK as it dealt with a little known battle preceding the Battle of the Bulge. The acting was OK as well. There was a lot of swearing going on. That type of dialogue can be overdone real easy, and that was the case here. Too much, with no point or emphasis to the plot. My biggest issue was with costuming. THe soldiers carried no gear. Their web belts we empty save for a canteen. Unless one of the actors was in a tight close-up there were no ammo pouches, bayonets, field kits or grenades. Reloads magically appeared in their hands when needed. The same with grenades. A bazooka was used near the end as well as a demolition charge. There were only four soldiers and all were seen prior to their attack. However, neither of those items, both large and bulky, were seen being carried in. THe soldiers throughout the movie rarely had the packs on. A soldier traveled and fought with his pack on. Ah well. There we a lot of things wrong with the movie which for me, and I'm kind of a WW2 buff, killed the overall wortiness of this film. Watch it just for fun but dont expect to come away from the film with any new insights. See more
Hermione S May 20, 2018 A solid WWII movie that seems like a dress-rehearsal for "Saving Private Ryan," with a similar style and intensity. If you don't like war movies, you will easily find things to criticize. The main character, Manning, represents a dilemma that is familiar to many who serve in tough conditions: teachers, nurses, coal miners, etc. The ending reminded me of "The Big Red One." In some ways, this film relies to heavily on tropes, but it doesn't interfere with an overall strong story portrayed by believable characters. Sanderson was my favorite character because he defies the stereotype of a WWII replacement seen in most war films. He quickly learns the lesson that he must fight well or else die early. I also enjoyed that the movie took place in the Hurtgen Forest, which is often overlooked. See more
Albus S Apr 27, 2017 O like reality film and the truth about hard choices. Even if I cannot justify the behavior of the lead character I can empathize, because I have seen it before. Especially good if you can forget about the production politics and just watch the story unfold. See more
