Bondarchuk is so overwhelmed by the thousands of Russian cavalry troops he's been given to play with, and by his $25 million budget, and by-his obsession for aerial photography, that his leading characters turn out scarcely more human than his extras. Go to Full Review

As for the golden history and legend, they lie buried beneath this delayed replay of a primer on strategy. Go to Full Review

Visually impressive, but a rather silly attempt to explain Napoleon. Go to Full Review

Waterloo is a spectacle which constantly pays off its panoramas in close-ups... But it gives us only a surface personality of the key military strategists, bits of clever dialogue. Go to Full Review

... in Waterloo the style is pedantic, the information dubious. Go to Full Review

A confusion of spectacular aerial shots, romantic slow- motion calvary charges, mumbled high command conferences and deafening artillery. Go to Full Review

Harry R Jan 28, 2019 What movie are the critics watching? It sure as hell isnt this one. This is how you make a war movie, filled with drama and suspense, despite the fact we all know how it ends. You won't find any CGI here, no hero on villain faceoff, no amazing feets of combat. This is a war movie that faithfully (if not 100% accurately as we have more information these days) potrays the slugging match that was Napoleonic warfare. There are no good guys and bad guys, no heroes or villains, it is a movie shot by Italians and Russians that portray the British allies and French with mutual respect. The only movies of this scale that are so respectful that i can think of are Zulu, The Longest Day, A Bridge Too Far, Tora Tora Tora and Dunkirk. See more
Han S Jan 27, 2019 Without a doubt the best movie I have ever seen!
Jan 27, 2019 a master piece of pre CGI battle.
Rey R Jan 12, 2019 Having watched and rewatched, I have come to the conclusion as a Napoleonic Wars enthusiast that, this film exceeds my expectations of Historical accuracy, in which many historical films do not fully commit to. The film I admit has one or two historical inaccuracies but are minor. The film is one of a kind and will be hard to be replicated. See more
Han G Dec 24, 2018 A brilliant retelling of the 100 Days that led to the climatic Battle Of Waterloo. Christopher Plummer and Rod Steiger are superb as the Duke of Wellington and Napoleon Bonaparte, respectively. Thanks to the help of the Soviet Army, the battle scenes are superb. One particular overhead scene of French cavalry swirling around the beleaguered British squares is worth watching again and again. Jack Hawkins as General Picton and Dan O'Herlihy as Marshal Ney are particularly noteworthy but everyone shines in this magnificent epic. History as it should be told. See more
Rey R Nov 19, 2018 A masterpiece unlike anything we see these days, it follows the actual events of Napoleon to the bitter end with zero CGI and actual huge battles it's a movie that should be seen as A historic masterpiece. See more
