A successful, charismatic four-star general, Glenn McMahon, leaps in like a rock star to command NATO forces in Afghanistan, only to be taken down by a journalist's no-holds-barred exposé.

Critics Consensus

War Machine's uneven execution keeps its fact-based story from cleanly hitting its targets, but those flaws are frequently offset by sharp wit and solid acting.

War Machine is a failure, but could perhaps have been a great film if it had tried a little harder to pick a tone.

Given the story, the potential for biting satire, the cast and filmmaker, War Machine is disappointing for its toothless and unfunny result.

I know why Rotten Tomatoes does not care for this...it shows a true depiction of Obama. Just disconnected and seeking photo ops to look relevant.

What a pile of shit. If I knew this was from a Rolling Stone POV and Pitt was going to be bastardize every second he was on screen to make this man seem like an asshole, I wouldnâ(TM)t have wasted the time. liberal horse-shit.

In its attempts to create a satire it was lead by poor acting and script. It used its supposed fact base to try to paint a completely negative view of the military and the main character.
