George (Paul Rudd) and Linda (Jennifer Aniston) have overextended, overstressed lives in Manhattan. After George loses his job, he and Linda have little choice but to move to Atlanta and stay with his terrible brother. On the way, the couple happen upon Elysium, an idyllic counterculture community, where money, careers and clothing are strictly optional. George and Linda think that they can make a fresh start in Elysium, only they may be trading one set of problems for another.

Critics Consensus

It isn't always as funny as it should be, but Wanderlust benefits from an extremely talented cast and some of David Wain's most confident, assured work behind the camera.

Even before the maddeningly smug faux-bohemian denouement, we've turned off and tuned out. Bummer.

There is no narrative cohesion to the film, no pull towards any of the characters, no emotional connection that made anything going onscreen resonate beyond a superficial level.

Wanderlust is flawed, too, but for its exploration of financial ruin and alternative lifestyles, it shows once again that Aniston, at the very least, knows which way the wind is blowing.

Several scenes may induce guffaws or shocked gasps, but this is the kind of all-too-common comedy that leaves the viewer with no reason to watch it again.

Very second rate - awful dialogue and cringing plot. For BBC 1 this is not their finest hour.

People slating this need to get a grip! Actually hadn't heard of this before (maybe explains why didn't take as expected at box office?) and I love Rudd and Apatow films. Was really pleased it was really funny and I laughed out loud most of the way through and that is quite rare. Aniston and Rudd work really well together, both really great performances and their chemistry works well. Funniest film I've seen Aniston apart from Friends and I reckon? Justin Theroux was a nice surprise too, actually never seen him anything before and thought he was a great comedic actor. Perfect witty rom com. Well acted by all and great script/direction. What more do you need?! :)

Good performances from Paul Rudd, Jennifer Aniston, and Jordan Peele give this movie the edge it needs with great writing

I could probably write a template for this kind of movie. Really funny (unsurprisingly, considering my love of Childrens Hospital) but the plot is so dumb that it actually starts to get annoying in the third act. Like at a certain point they had to sigh and say, fine, we have to introduce conflict now, let's just get it over with. Super funny, though.
