The population of a small, isolated countryside village believes that their alliance with the mysterious creatures that inhabit the surrounding forest is coming to an end.

Critics Consensus

The Village is appropriately creepy, but Shyamalan's signature twist ending disappoints.

It all comes to a head... in perhaps the greatest sequence Shyamalan has ever filmed.

Shyamalan's films never send that chill up the bone on a second viewing. Worse, with Signs and The Village even the first viewing is becoming a bit of a yawn.

The thing that I cherish most about this movie is the devotion to atmosphere. It’s spooky and stark, set in the woods of New England and it just feels like Halloween.

What kind of world do we owe our kids? How can we best prepare them to live in it after we’re gone? In Shyamalan's Knock At The Cabin, the cost of a safer world is great personal sacrifice. The Village places that burden on the next generation too.

I do think this is one of Shyamalan’s most accomplished works, and one that should be more recognized for the talent it shows behind and in front of the camera.

With a all star cast, and a creepy atmosphere The Village is ruined by a plot twist that ruins the whole movie.

Some aspects of The Village are creepy and the acting is very good, however its plot twists deflate the story and lead to one of the worst endings Shyamalan has ever conceived.

Not made for everyone, but if you enjoy some mystery, plot twist and an ambiance that knows how to use fear and make things feel realistic. You might be able to enjoy that movie that has more beauty and is certainly does not deserve such a low rating.

M. Night Shyamalan's most underrated movie. The Village is a fantastic period drama with a creepy supernatural twist that adds an extra layer of intrigue. Even though the ending may have disappointed some, I still think The Village is a fantastic film with powerful themes and great performances from its cast.

I like this movie. It's not on par with M. Night's 3 earlier films, but it's different and that's what he does best.
