Morris' first two films are as carefully composed and thematically complex as any scripted drama.

In trying to capture something of the mood of this small part of the world, Morris and cameraman Ned Burgess achieve something oddball, folksy and a little imaginative that, at just 55 minutes long, certainly doesn't outstay its welcome.

Slice of life documentary done immaculately. This film is packed with charm and quirkiness. Another director might have taken the low road and used these people as comedic punching bags but Errol Morris captures the folk of Vernon with love and transparency. We are never looking down on them and by the end of this 55 minute film, Vernon, FL almost feels a bit like home.

As an almost follow-up to the strangely appealing Gates of Heaven, this is a simple documentary that does have its moments and yet seems a lot more interested in mocking its eccentric subjects than having anything really interesting to say about their mundane lives and experiences.

Fascinating. I thought it was filmed now instead of 30 years ago!

In this early Errol Morris documentary he interviews a bunch of local yokels from Vernon, Florida. Well, not really interviews. He just lets them talk. And talk. And talk. There's not really a point, but listening to them speak is mesmerizing.
