Critics Consensus

Vacancy's restraint with gore is commendable, the thin characters and B-movie cliches less so.

This more than slightly familiar scenario doesn't give the principals much scope for acting. Go to Full Review

director Nimrod Antal settles for a more generic horror-ride as the imperatives of stalk-and-escape take hold. For a while, though, this is first-rate second-hand material. Go to Full Review

Kit out the Bates Motel with surveillance cameras, replace Anthony Perkins with the ineffectual Frank Whaley, and you'd have the location for this irritatingly cheapjack snuff-horror thriller, starring Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale as a depressed couple Go to Full Review

Every unsettling knock, ominous shadow, and piercing flash of light is there to yank us into the panic and dread that rushes through Amy and David’s bloodstream like snake venom. Go to Full Review

Vacancy doesn't always deliver. What it does is keep things eerie, uncertain, and tries its best to follow in the vein of the slasher sub-genre. Go to Full Review

Luke W Oct 29, 2018 Vacancy is a nicely compact, tense thriller that loses a little of its punch as a result of a rushed, generic ending. For the most part, the English-language debut of Nimrod Atal (Kontroll) offers a strong sense of atmosphere and escalating suspense. It's more interested in generating dread than offering cheap "boo!" moments and/or splattering the screen with gore. There is a sense that the final scenes may have undergone some meddling, although it's unclear at what stage of the filmmaking process this may have occurred. Whatever the case, the climax isn't up to the same level as much of what preceded it. See more
Sep 10, 2018 I'm not really into horror movies because I don't think that most of them are very good, but this movie was GREAT. Lots of suspense. Break out the popcorn! See more
Leia R Sep 19, 2017 Isn't the best horror film ever. But this movie damn sure has its moments. Luke and Kate don't disappoint. I recommend this film to any dude thats trying to give their old lady a good scare on a chill little movie night. See more
Anakin W Sep 12, 2017 3.5/5. Vacancy is a mostly solid horror film that suffers from a mildly lackluster ending. But the antagonist is basically a psycho Ned Flanders, so that's a plus. See more
Luke P Aug 10, 2017 Grungy and fairly effective thriller where a grieving couple tries to avoid being the latest victims in a snuff film enterprise. I wasn't thrilled with the ending, but the rest is some solid B-movie scares. See more
Leia S Aug 10, 2017 Well, the first half of this movie has the thrill feeling but after that it just dies off. I like both the main actors but... neither one are really known for emotions which I think in this setting is something you need. Like I said though the first half had the thrill feeling. Maybe it was just misdirection afterward. Seems like a swing and a miss with it. Pretty predictably but does not really kill the entertainment factor for it. See more
