An unemployed pot-smoking slacker and amateur drummer, Anthony Stoner (Tommy Chong) ditches his strict parents and hits the road, eventually meeting kindred spirit Pedro de Pacas (Cheech Marin). Critics Consensus

Oft-quoted but undeniably flawed, Up In Smoke is a seminal piece of stoner cinema thanks to the likability of its two counterculture icons.

What's lacking in Up in Smoke is a cohesiveness in both humor and characterization.

As far as comedic ingredients go, weed is not so much a surefire laugh-getter as it is a free-floating lubricant capable of setting off wicked complications.

A fitting movie for 4/20 but now that I have seen it I would not watch again. Best line from the whole thing is "King Salami."

Most of the critics who stoned this juvenile Lou Adler joint for having, at best, a hazy and incoherent narrative, I suspect failed to get stoned themselves before watching it, otherwise I think they would have been rolling in the aisle rather than in their graves.

Over the years I have heard nothing but good things about the Cheech & Chong film franchise. So one day I decided to check out one of their movies. Normally in this situation I would say "What the hell were all the people who actually liked this movie smoking?" but I already know. You know you have a problem when the only funny thing in the movie is the license plates on Cheech Marin's car. Painfully unfunny. I would say the story for this movie is terrible, but it does not have one. Ed Wood can write a better script. Needless to say I will not be wasting my time with another one of their movies again. If you have not seen "Up In Smoke" or any of this duo's films, don't.

The comedic pair creates a movie kind of based on the original albums that were so popular.
