Inspired by Charles Dickens's iconic novel Oliver Twist, this action-fueled crime-thriller set in contemporary London follows the journey of Twist (Raff Law), a gifted graffiti artist trying to find his way after the loss of his mother. Lured into a street gang headed by the paternal Fagin (Oscar® winner* Michael Caine), Twist is attracted to the lifestyle -- and to Red (Sophie Simnett), an alluring member of Fagin's crew. But when an art theft goes wrong, Twist's moral code is tested as he's caught between Fagin, the police, and a loose-cannon enforcer (Lena Headey).

What to Know

Critics Consensus

The real Twist in this lunkheaded Dickens update is the involvement of Michael Caine, who hopefully got another terrific house out of it.

Guy Lodge Variety Jul 29, 2021
It has no fresh angle on the material at all - merely a heist-by-numbers subplot straight out Guy Ritchie's drafts bin, welded to Dickens' coming-of-age narrative with all the poetry of a press release for a brand collaboration. Go to Full Review

I think this is a movie targeted at 20-somethings. It's modern, light and a bit of fun. Go to Full Review

This is a totally ridiculous movie. No one appears to be in on the joke, though Caine's unswerving professional code guarantees he wouldn't let on if he were: that takes a degree of commitment, if not precisely effort. Go to Full Review

The dialogue is laboured, and the direction is as subtle as a double-decker bus. Go to Full Review

When it comes to doing Charles Dickens novels, it seems like a flashy and cool thing to revive his work with the times, but it ultimately ends up pointless. Go to Full Review
