In Ruben Östlund's wickedly funny Palme d'Or winner, social hierarchy is turned upside down, revealing the tawdry relationship between power and beauty. Celebrity model couple, Carl (Harris Dickinson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean), are invited on a luxury cruise for the uber-rich, helmed by an unhinged boat captain (Woody Harrelson). What first appeared instagrammable ends catastrophically, leaving the survivors stranded on a desert island and fighting for survival.

Critics Consensus

Triangle of Sadness lacks the sharp edges of Östlund's earlier work, but this blackly humorous swipe at the obscenely affluent has its own rewards.

Triangle of Sadness is a satire of the uber-wealthy, and director Ruben Östlund first English-language feature, that delights in letting its horrible characters really have it … and trust me when I say you’ll be laughing the whole way.

Ruben Östlund’s English language debut Triangle of Sadness is not a movie one enjoys. Instead, one tolerates that questionable art still has the right to exist.

It offers a funny, if somewhat long-winded, story where the viewer will laugh and reflect on various issues related to money and status. An effective satire with Östlund's signature touch. [Full Review in Spanish]
