What to Know

Critics Consensus

While it boasts some impressive action sequences, Total Recall lacks the intricate plotting, wry humor, and fleshed out characters that made the original a sci-fi classic.

There are so many opportunities to make a remake better, but this film didn't attempt none of them. Go to Full Review

Recalls Ridley Scott's Blade Runner and Christopher Nolan's Inception, without, sadly being quite as distinctive as either. Go to Full Review

The performances match this shallow kiddie pool story. Go to Full Review

Done right, Total Recall should be a glorious mash-up of genres; The Truman Show-meets-Blade Runner. As it is, this is sci-fi without ideas, and a thriller completely bereft of thrills. Go to Full Review

[The film] spends so much of its time trying to duplicate aspects of the original that the filmmakers were distracted from their most clever ideas. Go to Full Review

Theodore S Dec 10, 2018 Not very good. Stick to the original.
Draco W Sep 28, 2018 Se extraña al planeta rojo de Verhoeven. El mundo y los gadgets futuristas son lo mejor de esta versiòn.
George W Sep 18, 2018 Incredibly dull and pointless remake of an Arnie classic. None of this cast stand up to the original, special mention for Beckinsale who is possible one of the worst actors I've ever seen. If you're anything like me you'll just be shouting out loud the lines they've just read in a stereotypical Arnie voice, doing this was 100% more enjoyable than watching this boring film 'SEE YOU AT THE PARTY RICHTER!' 'GET YOUR ASS TO MARS!' etc, you get the jist. See more

Aug 18, 2018 I liked the piano scene, but some movies don't need to be remade.
Hagrid R Aug 15, 2018 as an avid fan of the original movie i am insulted by how this movie is trying too hard to be taken seriously. it is a remake of a movie where Arnold Schwarzenegger dresses up as a woman to get to Mars, it isn't supposed to be absolutely serious. Not only that but even for a remake it is unoriginal. i know that remakes are supposed to have the same plot of the original movie or at least a similar one but this movie is self aware on how terrible it is, i know this because they rip off minority report and blade runner among other famous sci fi movies written by the same author Philip K Dick. the only reason it gets an extra half star is because Bryan Cranston is in it, which is the only plus side to the movie even though he only appears in person halfway through the final act of the movie.
