The Best Picture Oscar winner is an enjoyable, surprisingly bawdy and self-referential caper starring Albert Finney as a spoiled, incorrigible scamp. Go to Full Review

Draco S Feb 26, 2019 Such a zany film based on a controversial book of it's time. Loved Richardson's direction to the material and Albert Finney is brilliant as he is charming. See more
Luke W Feb 24, 2019 A well acted, truly enjoyable romp!
Ron S Feb 10, 2019 Raunchy, raucous riot!
Rey R Feb 9, 2019 In its jump cuts and irreverence evidencing the clear influence of the French New Wave and pointing toward the rebelliousness of cinema-to-come, the fast-paced picaresque is a ribald period piece both of its moment and head of its time, in costume chronicling the 1700s and in style capturing the mod mid-60s. Shifting seamlessly---which is not to say "smoothly," but rather caring little about the narrative suture between scenes---between one episode and the next, the film leans into the broad flippancy and tongue-in-cheek style of its long-lived source material, drawing a line between mid-18th-Century satire and mid-20th-Century iconoclasm. For all the weirdness of its editing and direction, however, its the young Finney's broad and bouncing performance that holds the vigorous vignettes together and keeps the viewer emotionally, and not just aesthetically, interested. It's dated, no doubt, but in that way that brings its historical moment (in terms of both what is on screen and how it gets framed) to life even a half-century later, reminding us that bawdy imprudence never really goes out of style. Kylo W Oct 29, 2018 How did Benny Hill not direct this train wreck?
Finn L Aug 9, 2018 A fierce film from Tony Richardson which will make today’s audiences gasp at how handsome Albert Finney was in his youth. Tom Jones is an imperfect film about an imperfect character whose story is so outrageous, one can’t help but laugh. The lightheartedness of Richardson’s piece will certainly attract audiences who have an open mind about these sorts of films but may switch off those who seek something with a little extra clarity. For first timers, try the Directors Cut, it’s shorter.. See more
