What to Know

Critics Consensus

This post-Watergate thriller captures the paranoid tenor of the times, thanks to Syndey Pollack's taut direction and excellent performances from Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway.

This peerless Sydney Pollack thriller hasn't just aged well, it's become positively prophetic, or at least eerily resonant. Go to Full Review

A piece of dotty, slightly paranoid intrigue. Three Days of the Condor promises little and keeps its word. It is hard to get indignant about it, or enthusiastic either. Go to Full Review

Spy thrillers have been romanticized since their early days on screen but films like Three Days of the Condor returned the genre to its realistic roots. Go to Full Review

The fourth of six collaborations from Pollack and Robert Redford, “Condor” was their first joint project in the spy genre. On the 50th anniversary of its release in 1975, the film exposes espionage that could still be happening in our country today. Go to Full Review

Han P Apr 7, 2019 Saw it many years ago and will be seeing it again soon, This one sticks in my head --- maybe because it could become a true story line if the imbecile in the White House stays in power. Great story line and cast. See more
Theodore W Mar 1, 2019 An In And Out Inn. Three Days Of Condor Pollack has been into romance before anything. Even in a story of crime, betrayal and mystery like such, he cannot help himself lean towards crafting out a love story. And as we all can see in here, most probably this is his major asset. Not a witty film but a superficial one, not satisfying but soothing. As far as the thrills are concerned, they come in cheap. With only its first act, delivering and respecting the genre the film claims to be, the tone shifting in its latter acts is something that is not easy to nod along with. The sense of urgency that Sydney Pollack; the director, wants us to feel is one big jolt of exhilarating dose that we wolfishly mug up and later regret on. He is of, course, no short on execution, his keen eye on details that sets and maps the room or a location in viewers' mind helps a lot in such a film. The physical sequences is another example, with multiple camera shots, the action is fast, cleaner than we usually get and well choreographed. Turner (Robert Redford) as the victim of the film and being framed by bigger banners is on a run or so you would think. Since that run goes on halt after he meets Kathy (Faye Dunaway) and the appealing sensual love angle swoops in on storytelling. The mellow impactful moments shared by these two stars is something we can all devour with ease, if lopping off all the other drama and strings, the love story had enough potential to stand alone, but unfortunately this who-done-it case fumbles in its last act poorly. Three Days Of The Condor might be a shorter stay than in the novel it is adapted from, but then it also feels longer at times. See more
Anakin M Feb 26, 2019 Paranoia and conspiracies abundant! 3 Days of the Condor (1975) is Sydney Pollack's focused spy thriller that delves into CIA mischief and espionage tactics. The thriller aspects are suspenseful thanks to Pollack's driven pace and haunting scenarios that keep you on edge. The long running sequences down streets and hallways are unnerving. Pollack gives so much detail into the world of spies that you are enchanted by his mysterious world of cloak and dagger terror. The writing from Lorenzo Semple Jr. and David Rayfiel has such insightful questions asked about the United States government. the underhanded and dangerous cover-ups and killers are gripping as 3 Days of the Condor is dripping with intrigue. This film not only predicts the U.S.A. invading the Middle East for oil, but also inspires most political and spy thrillers after it. The Bourne Identity completely ripped off 3 Days of the Condor hard. This film addresses CIA infiltration, secret operations, and government sanctioned assassins. It's all interesting as it is haunting. Robert Redford is phenomenal and nuanced as the CIA agent Joseph Turner, code name: The Condor. Redford's natural charisma is on full display as you are really rooting for this CIA researcher turned improvisational field operative. His charms and intelligent lead into a highly understated performance that leaves you shook. Similarly, the mighty Swedish acting legend Max von Sydow gives a subtle and complex performance as Joubert. To say more about his acting would spoil too much, so I will simply state that Sydow is as skilled at acting as any of the greats. He is hypnotizing every moment he is on screen. Chilling and calculating as you never suspect what he will do or say next. Faye Dunaway is brilliant as the snappy photographer and kidnapping victim due to Redford's hazardous situation. She is gorgeous and funny as the love interest and gives her character a realistic nervousness and charming wit. She pulls off a difficult role with certain restrictions and still comes across as smart and endearing in 3 Days of the Condor. Dunaway has tender chemistry alongside Redford. Their sultry affair is as hot as the bullets fired in 3 Days of the Condor. Lastly, I must mention the CIA contact J. Higgins played by Cliff Robertson. One of cinema's most elusive characters. He represents the safety of the country and the tumultuous relationship with ethics that the CIA finds itself within at all times. Robertson excellently captures a man at odds with what is right and what he is ordered to carry out. Overall, 3 Days of the Condor is a highly refined espionage narrative with thrilling shoot outs, fight scenes, love scenes, chase sequences, political intrigue, and government scandal with a foresight that is astounding decades after its release. 3 Days of the Condor is well worth watching to this day! George M Dec 13, 2018 Although a tad cringey by todays standards of male/female relations, 3 days of the condor is an incredibly well made, enjoyable thriller - with that cliff hanger ending! See more
Harry S Nov 12, 2018 I just saw this a few months ago and it felt like a modern movie. Breaking rules. I loved it.
Kylo P Nov 12, 2018 3 days of the condor is a mystery-thriller film that ultimately treat of what some could see today as a conspiration theory. Like Rogert Erbert said: « The scary thing is that it's all too believable ». The plot, so simple, is yet so intense and intriguing. Faye Dunaway is sexy, Robert Redford is almost too perfect, and their love scene is controversial enought to keep it in mind forever. Honorable mention to the jazz pieces composed by Dave Grusin which perfectly give the mystery mood of the film. See more
