Critics Consensus

Lea Thompson proves as capable behind the camera as her daughters are before it in , though its charming sensibilities are at times overshadowed by an inconsistent script.

Given that the most affecting love stories involve the sisters and their mother, the few scenes with this close-knit trio are the film's highlights.

Not everything works, but the Deutch sisters are a delight in every scene they share, and Madelyn has an unusual screen presence and a feel for the absurd that marks this 27-year-old as a talent to watch.

A good-looking yet slim and meandering hybrid of a romantic comedy, family drama and coming-of-age story.

The Year of Spectacular Men felt like a nonstop exercise in trying my patience -- from the unbearable, rambling, pointless screenplay to every actor in this film trying to convince us that something deep is going on here.

If you're a 20-something in a dysfunctional family, struggling to find purpose, and meandering through life, you'll be delighted by its over the top script.

This was like a Hollywood checklist for cliche and predictable in 2010's movie. The movie felt like quota check list of characters in the movie. So stereotypical of today's politically correct fantasy films. Lea Thompson real life daughters in the movie are boring and unconvincing.

Really loved this movie - great to see a fresh female millennial voice and perspective. If you liked John Cusack's High Fidelity, you will like this movie.

Loved it! Great story of two sisters and their relationship with each other, their mom,and the world. And of course some (maybe kinda) spectacular men. Watch with a glass of wine and some girlfriends!
