Although the picture isn't poor, it doesn't rank much higher than the average American program feature. And it moves much slower. Go to Full Review

In spite of the weakness of its story, however, the film is worth seeing for the excellent acting of Miss Compson and of Mr. Clive Brook, and for the cleverness of the production. Go to Full Review

Leia G Apr 12, 2015 Starting off atmospheric and occasionally fun, but becomes sillier and sillier, yet less and less enjoyable; ultimately ending up mostly forgettable. Commendable for what it's trying to do with the 'white shadow' metaphor, but not enough to hide the fact how forced it is. It's nice to see Hitchcock was involved with mistaken identities even before he became a director in his own right, it's a shame the story is so unimaginative to constrain it to the identical twin cliché; Hitchcock would do much better things with this story element in the years to come.
