Nov 19, 2018 To be honest this is a bad movie. But i think that alot of americans miss the point. It is supposed to be a random and fun movie with stupid charecters that pokes fun at the children movies that was being made in Denmark at that time. I also think that this film came out at the wrong time in the US and other countries and not in 2004 like in Denmark where it has a vult status. See more

Finn P Mar 19, 2017 TL;DR: Good movie from 2004 but has it's issues after translation and is primarily social commentary on 2000s Denmark. The Trouble with Terkel (or Terkel in Trouble) is originally a 2004 Danish animated movie, based of an 2001 narrative CD about the same plot. Originally most of the voices in the movie were provided by Danish comedian Ander Matthesen who also produced the story. Providing a humerous scenario in itself, but also vivid portrayal in voice over. It used understanding of the time, culture and language of the Danes, and thus was a smash hit with the youth as well as adults. Fully fledged 3d animation movies done in Denmark was unheard of in 2004, so it was also quite a feat, but it does mean the animation quality is cruder than what you'd expect from Dreamworks today. It's an 13 year old movie done by a small studio with a limited budget. Frankly how it's been reviewed professionally so far seems to have little insight in what they are watching. But of course this is now marketed in the U.S. which means it has to hold up there today as well, and while it holds up in Denmark to this day pretty well I will say, the voice over work on any translation I've seen is sub par. I find it hard to believe it necessarily will be as insightful to an American as to a Dane, because the movie does not have the same social commentary. So between subpar voice over work and social commantary 13 years late for a different country might be entertaining, but it's not gonna hold up the same. See more
