When it works, the film serves as a modest reminder that the challenges of autism may sometimes be no more daunting or fearsome than those that face anyone in search of an independent life. Go to Full Review

"The Story of Luke" is not a saga of epic proportions, but with a huge assist from Pucci's layered performance, takes a premise that could easily be movie-of-the-week sappy and finds a humanizing lightness. Go to Full Review
Chuck Wilson Village Voice Apr 3, 2013
A feel-good story about an autistic man's quest for independence, The Story of Luke is a charming little film in need of a bit more grit. Go to Full Review

Mayo and Pucci work together to create a portrayal of a young autistic male with authenticity and taste. Luke is not a caricature, nor is his condition understated. Go to Full Review

The outsized nature of their insensitivities is meant to reinforce the pain and humiliation from Luke's perspective, but it makes for a movie with an uneven tone. Go to Full Review

Abraham M Mar 11, 2017 Lilliana Mayo's Centro Ann Sullivan del Perú is probably one of best autism center's in the world, and almost the only one that works with the little non-verbal kids until they're talking and then getting jobs in their late teens and early twenties. And therefore, her son, Alonso Mayo, probably knows more about young adults with autism than most of us working in the field of autism, as this flick he wrote and directed shows. I just finished watching his "The Story of Luke" sort out of a sense of professional obligation, knowing it wouldn't really be that good as an entertaining movie; but I was wrong. It a great movie, a semi-feel-good comedy. Really well done from the understanding of autism to the background music, to the acting and the script. Everyone related to autism in one way or another should see it, including those of us working in the field and my fellow behavior analysts. See more
