What makes The Standoff at Sparrow Creek special is how much it reminds you of stories of alpha males like Reservoir Dogs, The Thing, and Mamet's work without ever feeling wholly derivative. Go to Full Review

Luke S Apr 16, 2019 instead, watch Reservoir Dogs again.
Mar 31, 2019 Hardly the gritty thriller that was promised, and almost all of the violence it boasts happens off screen, so I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed. "Standoff" would have been a pretty big snooze fest if it wasn't for some great acting and a well written script. The ending will most likely leave viewers feel cheated though. See more

Ben Kenigsberg The NYTimes AUDIENCE REVIEWS Review menu icon John Oravez just now I found this movie to be so over the top in all areas that I just cannot give it any good points. It makes cops look like crazy killers who use CB radios and act like programmed robots. It makes militia look like complete douchebags who, also use CB radios, fish finders and old clock radios to track and listen to the bad guy cops and other militia groups. The main character, who was some kind of undercover cop at one point long ago uses the old acid from milk jug in a stock tank to melt a deer trick to get a confession.... Really.... And on multiple occasions he thinks he found the guy who did the shootings but nope... Better luck next time, Maybe melt two deer? Also if I hear the stupid words about AR-15 assault rifles one more time.... An AR-15 does not meet the bill for an actual assault rifle... Stop beating that horse already, maybe they should melt a horse? This entire film was shot from the perspective that cops are bad, check, militia are bad, check, guns are bad, check... Okay I got it already.... We need a LEFT / RIGHT rating system for movies. The star and thumbs don't capture a movie like this clearly. In my example I would give it 5 LEFT stars and ZERO RIGHT stars. See now it makes sense and you instantly know if you will like it.... Okay I have to get going now, I am a hunter and I need to read up on this liquid deer melt product.... Oh one last thing I almost forgot... The name of this movie... It could have also been called the sit-down at spring gulch. That makes as much sense as it's title does... See more
Kylo W Feb 1, 2019 A really good movie that's very intense and suspenseful. The direction of the movie really stands out, especially considering it's Dunham's first feature. The plot is very nice and has a nice twist at the end that changes the whole context of the movie. It's totally unexpected. You knew there would be a twist because of the way this movie unfolds. But figuring which twist it would be is a different story. Also, it was great seeing Gene Jones again... you can never have too much Gene Jones. See more
Anakin S Jan 30, 2019 Worst movie I have seen in years. I made a rotten tomatoes account so I could warn others of this disaster. Unfortunately I fell asleep during the first viewing. But Iï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2(TM)m not a quitter so even though the first half was horrible, I went back for more. Kind of like smelling a really awful fart, but itï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2(TM)s so bad you sniff it again.... the second half of movie was worse. The plot is bad. The story line is awful. And the ending will make you cry. Not because it was sad, but because you will never get the 1.5 hours back that you will waste watching this movie. See more
Jan 28, 2019 This film was doing so well up until the ending, something similar to reservoir dogs.. But the ending comes quick and explains itself. I had a feeling this movie was an 'anti-firearm' film, and my suspicions were confirmed. Another "Ar-15's are death machines, and everyone who owns them is a potential mass murderer". Yawn. See more
