The Scent of Rain and Lightning is a well-acted, intelligent thriller that ultimately rewards the viewer's patience even if it too often sacrifices narrative clarity in favor of atmosphere.

The acting is very well done. These characters could easily be simple, stereotypical and flat as they all look that way on the surface but there's integrity and interesting purpose behind each one. The story is also very engaging until it sort of comes to an underwhelming and messy conclusion, keeping it from being the surprising character study I thought it would be.

with all good thrillers your left in a constant state of I've cant find my house keys. we follow Jody as she's told the the killer of her parents is being released from prison, from the off we know something isn't right. well written with shots that draw you so deep into the story you forget your not part of the family. a dark western thriller thats as smart as it is caring. casey afflict wouldn't have looked lost here.
