A hoary melodrama revealing the filmmaker's inexperience.

It's entirely fitting that "The River Thief" is an unabashedly faith-based drama - it would take a considerable leap of faith to find many redemptive qualities in this hackneyed, heavy-handed first feature written and directed by YA author N.D. Wilson.

An oddball redemption story in which the religious overtones jostle uncomfortably with a would-be boys' adventure tale turned kiddie noir.

A very average film and not one I would want to sit through again.

It is obviously low budget and some of the acting is choppy. But the story is good. The ending is unexpected, dark, yet redeeming. 25 professional reviewers, obviously are showing their bias against faith based movies. Worth seeing, enjoyable and way better than 0%.

Brilliant movie by N.D. Wilson, a highly gifted writer. For his first production he's done well. A great story with beautiful cinematography and a solid cast. I loved and appreciated the story. Keep 'em coming!

Poorly constructed and amateurish in its acting and production. This morality tale fails to let ts characters live and breathe. It fails at being a thriller and its strange christian theme works against it.
