A geologist races against time to save his estranged wife and two children when a devastating earthquake strikes Oslo, Norway.

Critics Consensus

A satisfyingly smart action thriller, The Quake delivers plenty of nail-biting tension without sacrificing character development or common sense.

Should be required viewing for all of today's Hollywood franchise jockeys. It shows you how to make one of these things without sacrificing your characters' souls (or your own, for that matter).

Andersen shows he's assertively capable of staging scenes of mass-destruction on a relatively minimal budget... with thrilling aplomb.

All in all I thoroughly enjoyed and would wholeheartedly recommend this picture. Equal parts art film and blockbuster movie with a pinch of wonderfully nuanced performances and a score to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout.

For a movie that could have easily been a B movie, John Andreas Andersen was able to elevate the characters and tension in a way to make this movie better than ever should have been. And on a fraction of the size of San Andreas.

It was nice although it was missing more attention to the quake

4 to 4 and a half to 5 stars. My heart was literally stopped. It's like my heart didn't want to beat after watching this. The whole earthquake scence could have been longer, but it still is a total shock show, The Qauke.

I like foreign movies but this one stank. Nothing but talking that went on and on and on and finally at the end a quake.

Character development is awful, follows cliche plot if no one believing the main character discovering there is a problem
