What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Prodigy doesn't take the bad seed genre to any truly new places, but for horror fans in search of an evil child to fear, it might still be worth a watch.

There are a couple moments when it works... [but] I would say go back and watch The Omen or The Bad Seed [instead]. Go to Full Review

Not even an amiable central performance from Taylor Schilling...and some early atmospheric mood-setting can save this "demon child" knock-off from its ineptitude. Go to Full Review

It's an unscary scary movie that quickly abandons the very thing that might have made it interesting... Go to Full Review

It’s not fun, and it’s barely entertaining. Does that make it bad? I don’t think so, just pretty sub-par. Go to Full Review

I recommend it to fans of the genre who are just looking for something new to watch, but it’s nothing super special or memorable. Go to Full Review

It’s a competent watch, but don’t expect to remember it by the time you get to your car. Go to Full Review

Poe W Apr 28, 2019 The Prodigy is a creepy bone-chiller, offering some originality with its take on possession. Some questionable parental choices break the tension at times. It maybe one to avoid for new parents, this kid is up there with the creepiest. See more
Theodore S Apr 27, 2019 It has left me very surprised throughout and so much happened that I didn't expect to happen. I watched this with my dad and we both were very surprised with not only the performance of the kid, but the jump scares that occurs. It's far from the best thing, but I would recommend to others who want something different. See more
Apr 27, 2019 Crap! Horrible script and cold performances.
Poe G Apr 27, 2019 Bad, bad, bad. Waste of time.
Luke S Apr 23, 2019 As far as horror goes, I actually sort of liked this movie. It wasn't perfect, some scenes were just way too long and drawn out to get to the conclusion, but it's got that classic horror feel reminiscent of Audrey Rose. It could have been a lot better with some tweaks, but I get what they were going for. If you like horror it's worth the watch. See more
Anakin P Apr 4, 2019 Interesting concept. Creepy movie overall
