Critics Consensus

A flawed yet enjoyable late-period Eastwood entry, The Mule stubbornly retains its footing despite a few missteps on its occasionally unpredictable path.

I think that there's a sweetness to some of the film... There is a certain self-criticism built into the role as it goes along. Go to Full Review

The Mule's greatest flaws are its expectedly racist and sexist undertones, but Clint Eastwood's latest directorial effort is also just extremely boring. Go to Full Review

The Mule is surprisingly photogenic. Unfortunately, the beauty of the film is not enough to save it from the lack of dimensionality Go to Full Review

Eastwood’s direction is skewered between poignant fish out of water vibes and random, arguably misguided commentaries on the state of the world today. Go to Full Review

Filled with humanizing moments, and at times, tonally jarring dialogue, many will find that while it’s no groundbreaking entry of the genre, the glaring message of stopping to smell the roses will be enough to make anyone smile. Go to Full Review

Draco S Apr 28, 2019 Eastwood plays the role in an entertaining fashion. The story could have been a good one but the family dimension was overplayed somewhat maudlin. It brought the whole movie down. I'm not sure i'd recommend this movie...which is my rating. See more
Draco S Apr 27, 2019 This was surprisingly good. Real good.
Abraham G Apr 26, 2019 Cool old guy is tormented by the miserable females in his family. Has to go to prison to finally escape them.
Apr 24, 2019 Sometimes this movie makes a mistake or has a moment where your like this sucks, but with great acting and a great story it is still enjoyable. See more
Hermione R Apr 21, 2019 What a piece of crap, bad script, story full of holes, unbelievable characters, Did they not play this for sample audiences who must have said, one of the top 10 worst endings of any movie of all time, we need a rewrite. Literally at the end of it sat and thought what was the point of the movie, no plot at all, so many great actors but not given scope to show their talent. If you pay to go see this shame on you you'll keep wondering why, why am I watching this piece of crap, waste of money at the cinema, waste of time no matter, for 1.00 at a Red Box or when it comes to TV for free. Harry M Apr 21, 2019 clint maybe as old as the hills but he has still got the eye for a good story and a good script
