I'm afraid that this ambitious movie is a complete disaster -- monomaniacal, tiresome, pointless, and, for all its devotion to the great outdoors, surprisingly claustrophobic. Go to Full Review

The movie has been directed and acted so well, in fact, that almost all my questions have to do with the script: Why was the hero made so uncompromisingly hateful? Go to Full Review

long with a clever and complex performance by Harrison Ford, that ambition makes for a movie that is deeply flawed, but undeniably powerful. Go to Full Review

It's a beautifully-made film, to be sure, with Weir's trademark use of space to define the characters, but it's a hard watch, given that Allie is such a deeply unsympathetic character. Go to Full Review

Ford is surprisingly convincing as the outwardly charming control freak, while River Phoenix gives a portrayal beyond his years as his troubled son. Go to Full Review

Theodore S Feb 24, 2019 Saw this years ago. It's good, but a lot of talented actors are wasted in what could have been something incredible. Read the novel and you'll see what I mean. Had it been done right, I do believe this would have been Harrison Ford's finest work. (just a sideline)Jack Nicholson was initially offered the lead but turned it down because he wouldn't be able to watch the basketball where they were filming. See more
Jun 1, 2018 Most Amazing movie ever. Critics are not too bright.
Albus G Jun 13, 2017 Superb but harrowing.
Han P Mar 29, 2017 Peter Weir film is really a showcase for Harrison Ford who plays an eccentric inventor living off the grid. It's a fearless and uncharacteristic performance and a deviation from Ford's usual earnest action hero persona. See more
Rey W Mar 10, 2017 Entertaining. Risky. Fantastic acting by Harrison Ford. Not for everyone. Its a movie about a guy who hates Western culture and wants to make his own way of life in the jungle. Only problem is his family is with him and the jungle isn't always a good place to live. Understatement. See more
Rey W Feb 25, 2017 It's like a runaway train but highly interesting to the end.
