Toward the end of his days in power, a man referred to as The President (Michel Bouquet) visits Antoine Moreau (Jalil Lespert), a political reporter who is being considered as his biographer. The elder statesman, who has been in ill health, is concerned with his political legacy and how he will be remembered -- especially given the controversy that surrounded his life. Moreau talks to others about The President, but it appears someone may be trying to keep certain facts from being unearthed.

Whatever the filmmaker's intentions, one feels that ultimately he was rather overawed and intimidated, like much of the French "left," by the late president. Go to Full Review

A thought-provoking film which will be of interest to not only those familiar with Mitterrand's political career, but also those partial to sage, wintry cinematic portraits. Go to Full Review

Theodore M Apr 4, 2017 As and intelligent individual, and quite well read on french politics, this movie is shameful. One learns with surprise that those who search Mitterrand's troubled past on the side of Vichy are unhealthy voyeurs and that the subject of the responsibilities of each one in this drama must not be approached. The millions of Jews who died in deportation will not be asked for their opinions. No wonder there have been so many collaborators and nazis in this France. See more
