The Intruder is a passable blend of dated home invasion thrillers and stalker movies.

I think with some editing this movie could have been a decent thriller, but ultimately it failed.

THE INTRUDER is crazy in a way that it really needs to be an unabashedly and whole-heartedly committed to its particular brand of madness.

Nothing will catch you off guard. Nothing will feel new or fresh. Yet it still manages to be reasonably fun in large part due to Quaid and a role he really sinks his teeth into.

The Intruder ignores how hospital admissions work, massive plot holes (the end of the film’s reveal is so ridiculous), and that a simple installation of a Ring video camera would have solved most of The Russell’s problems.

It's hard to say if Quaid's performance is career-ending or a career highlight in a decade that's seen him in a Footloose remake and two talking-dog movies.

As a piece of film craft, The Intruder is nothing short of abysmal. Yet it works beautifully. It's aggressively watchable. It's thrilling as hell. Why? Because unlike so many gleefully bad movies, this trashterpiece is made in earnest.

It's hard to narrow down if it's the acting that was terrible or if the dialogue was too bad to act. Likely, it was both.

The Intruder, from its hokey title to its predictable denouement, is the very definition of cookie-cutter modern thriller moviemaking, passing the time but you really wouldn't want it in your house.

The Intruder succeeds in making this scenario less blatantly paranoid and misanthropic than it often appears... It also helps that Quaid, showing remarkable dedication to the role, jumps effortlessly between magnanimous old fool and evil.
