What to Know

Critics Consensus

Sleek, well-acted, and intelligently crafted, The Guilty is a high-concept thriller that wrings maximum impact out of a handful of basic - and effective - ingredients.

This Danish potboiler is organized around a few nimbly executed plot twists, and like many similarly designed thrillers, it leaves the audience with little to think about once all the surprises have been revealed. Go to Full Review

Despite its self-imposed limitations, the skilfully made The Guilty excels as a compelling and tense evening in the cinema. Go to Full Review

Playing out in ‘real’ time, the film feels refreshing and unpredictable. We almost forget that this is a film, and not real life unfolding before our very eyes. Please remember, that this is just a film and don’t forget to breathe. Go to Full Review

“The Guilty” is a refreshing film that engages the imagination instead of dumbing things down and taking the safe route. Go to Full Review

It’s an impressive debut from Swedish filmmaker Gustav Möller, who uses his single location superbly. He isolates Asger within the frame as the tensions build and uses pauses and telephone silence to ratchet up the anxiety. Go to Full Review

Abraham P Apr 20, 2019 Tense and well-crafted (though you might be able to guess what happens.
Apr 17, 2019 Great story and exceptional performance by the main character. The end leaves you with a good dose of self-reflection: are we too often too quick with our judgement? See more
Luke R Apr 14, 2019 A great thriller that catches you up in a race against time.
Draco S Apr 10, 2019 Gustav Möller's first full lenght and it's another great Danish film. The setting is minimalistic, the script is not. Asger Holm is in the police force. He takes calls from the public - the one's that have dialed "112". He used to be in the outdoor force, but awaiting a trial he has to do other policework for some time. We get many calls here, but when a lady is kidnapped, things really get interesting. Asger is supposed to just call it in to the right district, but he can't help solving the case from behind a desk. This opens for many stories, many phonecalls and a bunch of twists. The script is absolutely amazing and Jakob Cedergren as Asger is more or less the only person in the film. He does a nice job but it's not like he's carrying the film by himself, he get's a lot of help from the mentioned script. There is nothing else going on here than phone calls but this works like a charm. Films like "Locke", "Buried" or "Rear Window" comes to mind. There is one location here, and you use your ears more than your eyes for this film. A very intense film that's worth a watch for several reasons. 8.5 out of 10 headsets. See more
Abraham R Apr 6, 2019 Set in a single location of an office for emergency service responders with events unfolding in real time and riveting solely on a protagonist on the phone, this Danish minimalist psychological thriller pulls off a tour de force of unstoppable palpitation and stoic trepidation. Ron S Apr 3, 2019 The best low-budget movie ever made. Can't think of anything better.
