Before embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime road trip, Andy Brewster pays a visit to his overbearing mother, Joyce. That proves to be a big mistake; Andy caves in under pressure to take his mom along for the ride. Early on -- as the miles roll by -- Andy feels nothing but aggravation at her antics. Eventually however, he comes to realize that they have more in common than he first thought and that Joyce's wisdom might be just what he needs.

The Guilt Trip

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand have enough chemistry to drive a solidly assembled comedy; unfortunately, The Guilt Trip has a lemon of a script and is perilously low on comedic fuel.

A bit 'eww' in that it's essentially a romcom with a mom and son, it's the perfect Mother's Day outing for people who don't like their mums much. Go to Full Review

Streisand has lost little of her gawky, pesky touch in comedy, while Rogen knows just how to be the charmingly daft slob. Go to Full Review

So while this intergenerational road trip has potential, it is wasted. A comedy even your mother might not love. Go to Full Review

A pat, old-fashioned comedy that fails to capitalise on the substantial potential for humour of its leading duo. Go to Full Review

Rogen and Streisand share adequate chemistry but seldom seem like the real deal in Anne Fletcher's fourth movie... Under her direction, Streisand and Rogen look like a pair of actors saying jokes written for them by a comedy think tank. Go to Full Review

Luke S Feb 20, 2019 Horrible, horrible movie. So many corny stereotypes.
Abraham W Aug 8, 2018 Save for a few charming moments from the inimitable Babs (who this movie does its best to make an old, irritating Jewish stereotype of a woman), a genuinely touching final scene, and a line about shitting blood, I enjoyed absolutely nothing in The Guilt Trip. In fact, it's vile that this thing thought it could pass itself off as a film, what with zero stakes, conflict, or plot points that aren't advanced via wild contrivance. Yes, The Guilt Trip is absolutely AWFUL. But that's not the worst part. The worst part is not knowing who it's for. Is it for Streisand fans? I can't imagine; she's reduced to what I mentioned above. Is it for Seth Rogen fans? Because he smokes not a whiff of weed, none of his frequent collabs appear, and he is blindingly unlikable throughout. Hate you, movie. See more
Leia R Jul 22, 2018 HORRIBLE. Don't waste a second on this drivel.
Jun 18, 2018 Considering I'm not a Barbara Streisand fan AT ALL, I was hesitant about seeing this movie. Thanks to JetBlue, I got to see it for free. Fortunately, I wasn't just a captured audience. The chemistry between Babs and Seth Rogen was very natural. In what I thought would be a goofy comedy ended up being an adorable, heart-warming romp with mother and son where lessons were learned by both and wonderful memories were made. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. See more
Finn L Jun 13, 2018 This is the worst movie I've ever seen. The plot is flimsy, there is zero comedy, it's a strange drama. I can't believe I paid money to watch a son treat his mom like shit for hours. See more
Han S Mar 14, 2018 Debiò llamarse Los monòlogos de la Streisand.
