Though it's a familiar plot about kids learning discipline and teamwork through sports, The Grizzlies is brought to life through the specifics that make the characters and their sense of place -- and of displacement -- central to the story. Go to Full Review

Apr 27, 2019 An amazing movie. Underdog sports story with great characters and a tough yet uplifting story. A movie for all ages.
Apr 26, 2019 This film is excellent - sticks closely to actual events as they unfolded without making it a "white saviour" movie. Respects indigenous culture and agency tremendous See more
Luke S Apr 24, 2019 A Must See for all Canadians. This film touches on real issues of Indigenous people -- Residential Schools, indigenous culture and values, substance abuse, suicide, poverty. An eye opener set with an inspiring story and cast taken from northern communities. Hopefully Cineplex will agree to wider distribution. See more
Theodore P Apr 23, 2019 best movie I've ever seen
George R Apr 23, 2019 The Grizzlies is a fantastic movie that completely changed my perspective on Canadian film. I can now totally get that there are incredible films made all the time that don't get enough attention because of not having the resource to compete with Hollywood. The Grizzlies is well-executed gritty compelling yet light hearted and funny all in one with a powerful message about the realities facing the Indigenous community and the unifying power of sports. Absolutely stellar performances from a largely amateur cast - I was so pleasantly surprised by this film I created an account here to write this review. Great movie to educate on real-life issues while also being fun for all ages. Go check it out, you won't be disappointed. See more
Apr 23, 2019 An incredibly touching story of a town in distress. Having spent time in communities in Nunavut, I feel this film very accurately portrayed the people and the culture of a modern-day Inuit hamlet. Through the story of a sports team, the film beautifully touched on so many issues from food insecurity in the North, to the legacy of residential schools, to race/power dynamics, and much more. I was truly touched by this poignant film. Everything down to the soundtrack was well thought-out including mostly (if not all), Inuit-made music. This movie is a must-see for anyone interested in reconciliation in Canada. See more
