What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Descent 2 goes spelunking for its predecessors' unnerving power but never digs beyond surface chills, although this efficient splatterfest contains enough nasty set pieces to sate the gore-prone.

An uninspired retread of a horror classic, this tries hard to justify its existence... and fails. Go to Full Review

The first-time director Jon Harris recreates the sense of airless, claustrophobic panic that worked so effectively the first time around and cranks up the yuck factor exponentially. Go to Full Review

If nothing else, the sequel has senseless Crawler action in spades, and there is an attempt at a happier ending for those who found the original film’s conclusion too gloomy. Go to Full Review

Ron M Feb 10, 2019 A total rà (C) run of the first, which was only bearable beacuse of the horrific deaths of the godawful characters. Yiu root for no one in this. And the same happens. Worth a look. But only if nothing else is on offer. See more
Hagrid W Feb 5, 2019 This movie is garbage, especially if you follow Neil Marshals directors cut of the original. Avoid this all together
Harry S Oct 10, 2018 The Descent Part 2 comes back again gore-packed and with great work from its female leads. However, as a consequence of poor and pointless decisions and execution, not even a tremendous/moving final act can save it. It just sadly misses all the points that made the first one so good. Kylo S Sep 4, 2018 he Descent is a masterpiece of horror- It came out of nowhere and stunned audiences and critics alike. There was no doubt that a sequel had to be made and thus we have The Descent 2 which somehow carries on the legacy of the failed sequel. Yes, there is a cave and there are cave monsters but what is lacking is a soul. This film proves the importance of a deft hand behind the camera and a great screenplay. We still have the cave and the same monsters, yet this is a letdown of a movie. See more
Jul 17, 2018 One of my favorite things about the Descent was the lack of men. It was refreshing to see a horror movie that didn't make me sit through an hour and a half of misogynistic dudebros and weak women. The Descent part 2 reverted to the horror genre standard that I hate so much. See more
Theodore G Jul 8, 2018 not as good as the first, but it's not terrible. however it did seem pointless to have that whole crew go if she was just gonna run away from them anyways. only 1 survived & it wasn't any of the people they were trying to save. See more
