For Tammy (Melissa McCarthy), a burger-joint waitress, a bad day keeps getting worse. She wrecks her car, loses her job and finds her husband in a compromising position with their neighbor. It's time for Tammy to hit the road, but without money or transportation, her options are limited. Her only choice is a road trip with her grandmother, Pearl (Susan Sarandon), who has a car, cash and an itch to see Niagara Falls. It's not the escape Tammy had in mind, but it may be what she needs.

Critics Consensus

Melissa McCarthy remains an engaging screen presence, but her efforts aren't enough to keep the jumbled Tammy on track.

We've expected makeover narratives and personal-growth realizations from women on screen... in Tammy, we get a character - and her creator - patently uninterested in most of that journey. For Hollywood, that's radical. Go to Full Review

'Tammy' is a disappointment, because it asks an energetic, unpredictable performer to play it so calculatingly, frustratingly safe. Go to Full Review

By the end of the credits Tammy doesn't feel like a comedy - although there are several giggles sprinkled throughout - as much as it does a waste of talent. Go to Full Review

Poe R Apr 7, 2019 It has a story behind it that you don't have to think to hard into
Abraham W Feb 5, 2019 Bloated, abnoxious, and overall a waste of time. Even McCarthy can do better.
Harry R Jan 5, 2019 Good for a few good laughs. Sarandon and Bates are awesome, while McCarthy is still earning her comedic film wings, so to speak. :) See more
Han L Feb 5, 2018 Pretty funny! Not perfect.
Anakin P Jan 24, 2018 'Tammy' is lazy, and has next to no redeeming qualities.
Albus P Sep 27, 2017 I don't understand the poor rating on this movie. Everyone I know has liked this movie and it's one of my favorite movies! I think a lot of the humor in this film goes over people's heads. A lot of it is physical humor and the way Melissa McCarthy says things and her facial expressions. This movie cracks me up the whole time and I love it! If you haven't watched it, I'd give it a try especially if you like Melissa McCarthy! See more
