The effects are equal to the first film and there's a strong supporting cast, including an irascible Gene Hackman and the excellent Terence Stamp in what, at the time, was something of a comeback role.

Personally, I think the sequel is a marked improvement over the first edition. For one thing, this film is relieved of an obligation to establish Superman's credentials as in the opening chapter.

Lester has a fine touch with comedy, and it comes through, in a very campy manner, in many situations. Some of it descends into silliness, but then, so do comic strips.
