Jamilah seems to have it all. She's the president of her sorority, captain of the step dance crew, student liaison to the college dean, and she has been accepted to Harvard Law School. When the hard-partying white girls from Sigma Beta Beta embarrass the school, Jamilah is ordered to come to the rescue by teaching the rhythmically challenged how to dance, in hopes of winning the Steptacular, the most competitive of dance competitions.

Step Sisters tries to straddle a similar line, and it has a lot to say about race, sorority life, and sisterhood, but its characters are not so much real people as mere vessels for different viewpoints. Go to Full Review

Step Sisters is especially disappointing coming from director Charles Stone III, who gave the world the joy of Drumline. No one would care about Step Sister's generic script if the dance scenes popped. Go to Full Review

There are other stories to tell about being Black on a PWI campus that don't involve racial injustice and trauma... Jamilah brought that narrative to life in Step Sisters, and honestly, that's good enough for me. Go to Full Review

...while the stigma of skin color starts to fade in time for the film to make its statement on different worlds (from race to gender to class) relating and bonding over what they have in common, it's just a bit too late. Go to Full Review

Han P Aug 7, 2018 What's with all the division and racial jokes/stereotypes? I'm african my husband is white and neither of our parents have ever cared. In 2018 there are mixed people of all races that hang out without a problem and white people can be amazing dancers too duh! This movie was something out 1960. See more
Aug 7, 2018 Fun dance oriented film
Ron L Jul 11, 2018 This moving was fun and upbeat and is widely under appreciated. It has funny characters that although only serve as ways to think about different points of view are still very interesting. I think that the people against this movies are against its ideas but truly it's fun and the dances pop. Great movie plz watch See more

Mar 28, 2018 I've watched the movie so many times with my best friend, we can literally quote it. It's a great movie I think it definitely speaks to my generation; it's funny, it has music, friendship. It has the elements that bring people together. See more
