Starman

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Beginning as an offbeat sci-fi adventure, Starman evolves into a surprisingly tender love story, courtesy of Jeff Bridges' disarming performance and John Carpenter's careful direction.

Beyond his sweet chemistry with Allen, Bridges delivers a physical performance so striking that it won him an Oscar nomination for best actor. Go to Full Review

It's a noble effort, but one that never rises above the limitations of its unoriginal script. Go to Full Review

Han W Apr 21, 2019 Blobbo love Starman.
Draco R Apr 13, 2019 John Carpenter follows a familiar narrative approach in the typically formulaic otherworldly visitation while tuning it as contradictive healing over grief that was empathetically done by the humbly strange chemistry between the two likable leads, mainly Bridges' further star-turning eccentricity. Abraham W Oct 21, 2018 This is a very touching and effective romance between an human being and an alien. Really. And along the way many moral lessons are learned... See more
Ron M Jan 19, 2018 Essentially E.T. for adults. This is a good little road movie with a twist. Jeff Bridges is very good as the childlike spaceman learning of earth and Karen Allen turns in a sexy performance full of sympathy. A well made film that is certainly nothing new but will please fans of Carpenter or 80's movies. See more
Nov 25, 2017 I knew of this movie as a child, I heard it was like E.T but it was nothing like it.. Skip 30+ years & I adored it, hard to beleive this was a Carpenter film like most people thought. This is a love story first, science fiction second. I really felt for Karen Allen's character Jenny, she lost her husband and is grasping with the fact he's back as Starman. She now falls for Starman & her heart is set to being with him regardless of where he has to go. Jenny: "Let me go with you". Starman: "In my world, you will die". Jenny: "i dont care!" I wish Karen Allen was nominated for the Academy Award, she deserved it in my opinion. See more
Poe P Sep 26, 2017 Just the BEST MOVIE EVER! I've seen it countless times and it moves me deeply every time.... So well cast, and holds up a great mirror. See more
