A surprise attack in outer space forces the Enterprise to crash-land on a mysterious world. The assault came from Krall (Idris Elba), a lizard-like dictator who derives his energy by sucking the life out of his victims. Krall needs an ancient and valuable artifact that's aboard the badly damaged starship. Left stranded in a rugged wilderness, Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto) and the rest of the crew must now battle a deadly alien race while trying to find a way off their hostile planet.

Critics Consensus

Star Trek Beyond continues the franchise's post-reboot hot streak with an epic sci-fi adventure that honors the series' sci-fi roots without skimping on the blockbuster action.

A fun popcorn movie that highlights the value of teamwork and a good playlist (priceless core values in life).

The result is a taut piece of filmmaking, with perfectly choreographed action scenes and a rapid-fire pace that only leaves time to gasp for air

The best thing about Beyond is that it remembers that the core strength of Star Trek is the camaraderie and friendship of the Enterprise's leadership unit.

‘Star Trek Beyond’ is featherweight science fiction fare content not using its noggin that is as hectic as it is – to quote the time-honored Spock – illogical.

Star Trek Beyond isn’t a bad film by any means, but its contrivances and off-focused writing stifles the film’s momentum and kills all continuity from the previous two films.

While I do consider this movie the weakest of the Abrams Star Trek Movies, that's not saying anything bad about it. This movie is fantastic. Super fun to watch, humorous, beautiful visuals (especially Yorktown, that place just looks stunning) and I's say that it's a great capper for a trilogy.

This is WAY better than the first two movies. JJ Abrams is a garbage director. This was exactly what I wanted out of a Star Trek movie. I read the critic reviews who didn't like it and their complaints are "it's a lot like the old star trek". I get it, you're bored of star trek. I grew up with star trek and I'm not bored of star trek. Go away and watch something else.

God awful, dumbed down dreck. Can't manage to tell a decent story so just bury the shit writing in fast, shiny action scenes that are completely incongruous with Star Trek. Embarrassing addition to the franchise.

Emotion-wise it blew me away. Beautiful visuals and awesome characters, ...some silly plot holes, but heyy... I went to have a good time, and that's what I got out of it.

I really like this cast. The effects are well done and the concepts are edgy. Only criticism is you don't feel that they are in any real danger.
