Poe R Apr 9, 2019 This garbage shitstorm fire of a movie makes other trash Netflix originals like 'The Kissing Booth' and 'Sierra Burgess is a Big Loser' look impressive. I knew this movie was bad and I decided to watch it with a cousin ironically, thinking it was one of those "So Bad That It's Good" movies, but boy was I wrong. Firstly, the entire movie is only 75 minutes, but it was so dragged out and boring. Each surfing or dream sequence did not have to last 5 minutes . Secondly, WHERE exactly is the plot? 30 minutes into this and I still couldn't figure out what it was about. Johnny's grief over losing his dad? Penny's 'quirkiness' and her insecurity over not being as 'fun' or 'outgoing' as her mom or cousin, or her dilemma over losing her virginity?? The love pentagon or whatever the fuck they call a summer romance? Just WHAT is the main conflict here? It's so crazy how this movie feels so dragged out and yet the character conflicts are so rushed as if the writers just pulled them out of their asses. I don't like Noah Centineo because I think he's cringey and tries too hard to be like Jason Sartorius (which is something you really shouldn't aspire to be), but this movie's characters were so flat, poorly written and inconsistent that it made his character the only one that seemed to make the tiniest bit of sense. I couldn't tell who was attracted to who 90% of the time. Penny's sudden attraction to Ash made zero sense, and it's hilarious that even she points it out with possibly the worst line written in film history: "How is it possible that you could feel so distant with a guy you just slept with, and feel so close with a guy you just met?" It's hardly a love triangle, because it has zero context or justification, the guys are hardly trying to pursue Penny, and it's mostly just Penny trying to figure out which dumb artsy fuckboy she wants to bone more. Camilla is the most annoyingly written character to ever exist. The movie tries to portray her as this fun, laidback party girl who contrasts the innocent uptight "angel" that Penny is, but honestly, she's just insufferable. She seduces and kisses Johnny, her cousin's boyfriend and gets upset when he tells her that he doesn't take her seriously. It also makes no sense that she would be attracted to Johnny apart from his looks because they hardly interacted throughout the movie, which just makes her look even more like the shallow dumb airhead she's so offended to be referred to as. She gets the most generic advice ever from Steve and asks him if he's ever considered being a therapist, and of course he buys into that compliment. As if teen romance films don't already give teenagers a bad name, this movie basically portrays them as shallow horny idiots who think they're way deeper and wiser than they actually are. Was this movie made as a joke? Because it has to be a joke. There is no way it's humanly possible to write a movie this bad seriously. Either way, don't watch and waste your time like I did. It's not "So Bad That It's Good". It's just BAD. See more
Anakin S Apr 2, 2019 Nothing really happened throughout the entire movie. The main conflict was not clear at all. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen but nothing did. The characters are very basic with little personality, and are not very like able. See more
Ron P Mar 5, 2019 HORRIBLE!!!!!! IT MAKES NO SENSE. O.M.G
Feb 20, 2019 Its not a common teen slash romantic movie it doesnt have all tha romantisism that make the main cararcters fight and hate each other . This is a peacefull movie one where you can understand how people shoul react to break ups and exs an all . Its a good and out of the box film with some cool animation parts. See more
Hermione S Feb 2, 2019 This movie is like a Baby-Brainy for adults, with the most mono-toned cast and emotionless lines. The title doesn't match the movie at all, but how could it when the whole movie has 0% plot? Of course the Latina is portrayed as the one who knows everything about sex, and the white cousin is shown as been completely innocent and clueless. Furthermore, the day after Penny loses her virginity to her boyfriend, she decides that she likes Ash (a guy she JUST MET from the beach) more. Even better, there's no question from anyone as to why they act like they're all pals with Ash the second that they meet him. In the real world, no one would just invite a stranger into the house that they're house-sitting and become that close within a few seconds, no matter the circumstances. And what Catholic gets baptized by themselves, late a night, naked? I don't care how religious you are in your Christian or Catholic or whatever faith, that's not how you "renew your faith." Maybe that was meant to be comical or whatever, but all things considered, it was anything but funny. There's so much more that I didn't mention, but, overall, please don't waste your time with this movie. It's utter garbage. See more
