The performances are thrillingly uninhibited; don't be surprised if the careers of several future stars are traced back to this film.

Channelling elements of Gregg Araki, Gaspar No and Harmony Korine, Taylor submerges all this in a wealth of saturated colour, melancholic poetry, an eclectic music track and vibrant visual effects.

Written and directed by Taylor, it may be a difficult story structure for some to follow but once you open your mind to all the possibilities out there, you can quickly find yourself immersed into this otherworldly story.

The effect is dreamlike, trippy, a saturation of colour and music, not always explained but eventually with an emotional and joyful resolution.

Taylor seems bored by his own story and quickly introduces secondary and tertiary characters of diminishing importance to jolt a line that was doing just fine on its own.

Utter rubbish from start to finish

Forget about tales they tell you in The Virgin Suicides, Sixteen Candles, Dazed and Confused and the rest of the over-embellished, over-stylised teenage flicks. Yes, we've all been teenagers, and we can all agree than none of the situations, love stories or formulaic relationships are not even remotely close to what is actually feels to come to the age of female adolescence.

This is a pretty crazy film, it's really unique, it's like no other British film I've seen! It really spends proper time with the characters, who are mostly young teenagers, and actually listens to them, rather than telling them what they should be like. There are some interesting plot structures which are challenging to follow but mostly I loved it for the overall energy.

A singular vision from a talented first time director, Spaceship is weird and kind of wonderful. A unique tone, expressive visuals and a knockout emotional finale keep things moving when the film threatens to meander into eternity.
