Wheelsy is a small town where not much happens and everyone minds his own business. No one notices when evil slips in quietly but when people find mutilated livestock and a woman goes missing, Sheriff Bill Pardy discovers an alien organism that threatens to devour all life on Earth.

Critics Consensus

A slimy, B-movie homage oozing with affection for low-budget horror films, Slither is creepy and funny -- if you've got the stomach for it.

Its science fiction elements are thinly conceived, while the use of rubbery practical effects and lame jokes feel much closer to the work of the Troma brand where Gunn got his training wheels.

Slither is a visceral experience from the first, but as the creature grows, so does the film's daring.

Gross-out horror comedy is my least favorite genre, but this movie's so skillful I have to take my hat off to it.

Bolstered by superfine practical effects, the film revives a substantive squick that had begun to seep from the genre with Hollywood’s digital turn.

As the movie rolls into the last act, Troma veteran Gunn takes the brakes off and lets loose - propane tanks, flesh and explosions, oh my - in a climax tailor-made for rowdy midnight crowds.

Despite the general lack of fresh ideas, the half-send-up and partially-earnest thriller still musters plenty of entertainment value.

Gross, campy, fun and disgustingly creepy. A bit uneven at points but definitely worth a watch.

Slither is uninspired in its science fiction elements and although some scenes are effective and they play on our primal fear of parasitic worms very well, the film mostly favors gore over actual scares and is too disgusting at times. However, the reason why this film works is because of its humor which is absolutely terrific as the film makes fun of various horror clichés in both character action and script with a fair share of very funny lines of dialogue. It's a very entertaining flick well directed by James Gunn plus Elizabeth Banks is quite memorable here.

A great, gross out, horror comedy. As always the underrated Michael Rooker gives a memorable performance.
