Critics Consensus

Led by outstanding work from Emily Blunt and Benicio del Toro, Sicario is a taut, tightly wound thriller with much more on its mind than attention-getting set pieces.

It's a thoughtful film, but also a visceral and affecting one, capturing the intensity of these raids and encounters.

Sicario is as brilliantly made as Prisoners, perhaps even more so.

Gorgeously made, with a set piece taking place in tunnels underneath the border that conveys chaos without ever looking incoherent and a throbbing Jóhann Jóhannsson score that's the sound of very bad things on the horizon.

'Sicario' commits cinematic terrorism against our desire for narrative order. It's time to welcome Villeneuve to the Masters circle.

The film can swing at one moment from a scene of domestic life to a fiery scene of criminal confrontation where the bullets fly with uncompromising skill and grace. That artistic combination is perfect to give this film its unyielding and dangerous tone.

This movie is surprisingly really good. It's about a government group taking down a powerful drug cartel, and it is full of surprises. The story is simple yet original with action sequences that are just plain badass. I wanted to watch this because the second one looks cool but now I am afraid that the sequel one won't live up to this one. Like I said, the surprises are actually good, so I won't talk in depth about it. Even though it was two hours long, it did feel a bit longer than it was, but I didn't bother me because the movie was just too good. The characters are unique, each one with a mind set on doing something and the actors did a great job. I am very impressed with this movie and I am definitely going to see the sequel.

Sicario is everything and more you could want in a thriller bringing realism and gritty action sequences into a marvel of twists and turns all while shedding light on the changing and complex climate of the southern border.

Morally complex, and expertly acted Sicario isn't an experience I'll go back to often but as a well made drama about the brutality of the war on drugs I commend the talent behind and in front of the camera.
