I didn't pay much attention mainly because I didn't want to get scared (I thought this was a psychological thriller not a horror movie) so I missed some points obviously but it was a fresh look and I liked it.

Holy crap. You can hear her urinate. There is unbearable noise throughout the movie. The sound guy needs to be fired. Also, we do not get to know what is going on until late in the movie. Garbage.

Shortwave is at once exceptionally ambitious and completely insane. The film about a shortwave radio engineer and his wife dealing with the consequence of his having invented shortwave technology that can speak to lifeforms not of this Earth has remarkable ambition but lacks the budget and ability to meet that ambition. Couldn't sit through more than 15 minutes of this stillborn film. Director doesn't know how to tell a story. Opens with a woman going to the toilet. This is supposed to be SF, somethings about radio communication with aliens? Filmmaker doesn't understand audience expectations. Knee-deep in confusing flashbacks before anything happened, ho-hum dialogue went in circles, repetitive, kept telling us the same thing over and over. Filmmaker is adept at camerawork and editing but needs to learn genre basics and engaging storytelling approaches. Hone the script, then shoot the film.
