What to Know

Critics Consensus

Although Seduced and Abandoned highlights the frustrating side of the movie business, Alec Baldwin and James Toback's comedic chemistry ensures that its darker moments are leavened with a lighter touch.

The film is funny, and sad, and insightful if you've no idea what a movie deal looks like, which I hadn't. Go to Full Review

Seduced and Abandoned is, if nothing else, a film buff's delight. Go to Full Review

Their [Toback and Baldwin] film about the idea of the film is entertaining and diverting, even if there is also something slightly melancholy about this artificial pursuit of a cinematic phantasm. Go to Full Review

Hugely self-indulgent and at times just plainly ridiculous, the most eye-opening aspect of Seduced and Abandoned is the very level of talent wrangled into contributing. Go to Full Review

Seduced and Abandoned isn't a deeply intellectual film, but it is a wry and dry road trip that's worth a watch, at least for the pleasure of Baldwin playing the role he was born to play, Alec Baldwin. Go to Full Review
Leigh Paatsch Herald Sun (Australia) May 13, 2014

The film is at its very best when Baldwin informally cross-examines respected names such as Martin Scorsese, Roman Polanski, Bernardo Bertolucci, James Caan and Jessica Chastain. Go to Full Review

Luke R Mar 22, 2015 an insightful, deeper analysis into the financing of Hollywood 95% of the business involves getting a movie invested in and only 5% of them actually get it Alec Baldwin and James Toback make a documentary trying to get a film of their own off the ground during the Cannes Film Festival so many celebrities are interviewed from Neve Campbell to Jessica Chastain to James Caan to Ryan Gosling as well as famous filmmakers lilke Diablo Cody, Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorcese each of them give their personal insight and how they really feel about the industry with certain roles they take certain smaller movies that are loved hardly make any money, where big, budgeted films that aren't considered good make a lot more money where does a lot of it actually go? writers, actors, producers only get paid if the films they make succeed Baldwin describes Hollywood as a complicated lover; you can be seduced and abandoned by it the chance to work in a piece of art with a script that captures your attention is enticing then again you feel like you're only doing it for the money and you just leave it at that cinephiles, film buffs and aspiring filmmakers can learn a lot from this detailed, rich and funny dissection of the industry See more
