As the apparently last disciple and heir apparent of Jigsaw, Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) goes on the hunt to protect his secret. Using a series of increasingly bizarre and grisly traps, Hoffman eliminates his enemies one by one to protect the Jigsaw legacy.

Critics Consensus

If its plot were as interesting as its torture devices, or its violence less painful than its performances, perhaps Saw V might not feel like it was running on fumes.

There's heartwarming cooperation and redemption, but also vicious backstabbing, and it makes for the best murder-house dynamic in the franchise.

Saw V is a terrible combination: grisly and tedious. Let's just call it bloody dull.

Even the most die-hard of Saw fans won't credit how tedious, lame and pointless this fourth sequel manages to be.

It’s all very anonymous and detached, furthering the “torture porn” categorization of these movies.

With few of the series' blackly comedic traps and the lack of any real plot twist, Saw V is the first entry that feels truly dull.

Although "Saw V" (in my opinion) is slightly better than "Saw IV", it does have its fair share of story convolution and some odd persona choices for the main victims involved.

I cared so little about this movie that I opened up youtube and forgot that the movie was still playing.

The protagonist this time around is a bit more interesting to follow, and it features a large series of traps involving a large group of people that can hold your attention. Saw V is an improvement over IV, though it is still strictly recommendable to fans

dumb and dumber. By this point the jigsaw tricks are boring and you are left with nothing but gore and disgust.
