The old teacher - who stands six-foot-three and wears a gray beard that looks to be three-foot-six - is an affable eccentric full of information, but as he himself notes, he's more of a storyteller than a historian. Go to Full Review

By the time of the finale, the film has lost most of whatever forward momentum it had, but at least Méliès's old works look appropriately stunning. Go to Full Review

Jun 18, 2018 What a fabulous place, and a wonderful guide to historical treasure and cultures and the feelings of community.
Rey W Jun 8, 2018 I'm weary, and I seek deeper meaning. That's why Saving Brinton, a documentary co-directed by Tommy Haines and Andrew Sherburne, is such a cinematic breath of fresh air. It slowed me down, steeped me in beautiful images and values of the Midwest, and awakened in me an appreciation of cinematic history. https://newspeakreview.com/tag/saving-brinton/ See more
Leia P Oct 30, 2017 An engaging portrayal of a small town in Iowa with surprising film heritage and a fascinating man who is as decent in his conduct as he is passionate in his pursuits. I became enamored with the charismatic and refreshingly anachronistic subject of this subtly emotional film. The only difficulty was deciding if that subject was Georges Melies' silent films, the people of Washington Iowa or Mike Zahs himself. No matter, the delightful effect was the same. See more
Harry P Oct 30, 2017 Brilliant and inspiring film that speaks to the power of community, history, story telling, and never giving up on a dream.
