The denizens of Bikini Bottom are thrown into jeopardy when their home is suddenly scooped out of the ocean and held hostage at a Texas laboratory. At the heart of this sea-nister plot is business tycoon Sue Nahmee (Wanda Sykes), who wants to transform the inhabitants of Bikini Bottom into Sea Pals -- a mass-manufactured product line of cuddly toys. It is up to intrepid squirrel/marine biologist Sandy Cheeks (Carolyn Lawrence) and happy-go-lucky sea sponge SpongeBob SquarePants (Tom Kenny) to find their way to Galveston to rescue their pals and return Bikini Bottom to its rightful place under the sea.

For general viewers, it may not pack as much of an emotional punch, but like SpongeBob himself, it’s thoroughly absorbing. Go to Full Review

There is not a lot here for long-time fans of the franchise beyond some hollow call-backs to iconic jokes such as “My-Leg!”, but it’s a serviceable adventure with a distinct visual style. Go to Full Review

SpongeBob has always been gleefully absurd, and to its credit, The Sandy Cheeks Movie is certainly out there. But there’s a trepidation to the script, which never fully commits to the gonzo madness a movie like this requires. Go to Full Review
