Critics Consensus

A satirical teen comedy that, unfortunately, pulls its punches.

What's fascinating about these two characters is not just how different they start off in the beginning of the movie, but how... They grow from not just the high school caricatures we assume to survive, but end up whole and complex people.

It's a shame the closing moral about a more pragmatic, inclusive approach to spirituality is conveyed with such a heavy hand.

These characters were brought to life by a wonderful ensemble cast who clearly connected with the humanity and the spirituality of their roles.

German-born writer/director Brian Dannelly's film reinterprets a genre he clearly loves with the camp fervor of the born again.

After 90 minutes of this film's dozy condescension, you can only marvel at Hollywood's near-total ignorance of a large chunk of its local audience.

I was hoping some something with a little more bite, this took a lot of safe ways out of the plot and devolves into a pretty standard high school romance story.

By no means hilarious but still funny, amusing, and sweet with an impressive collaborative effort from its young underdog cast. As far as religious satires go, Saved! definitely pulls some punches and ultimately plays it a little too safe but at its best it reminded me of the adorable 90s teen comedies that existed in a very specific time and place that I am very fond of. If you go into this movie expecting the edginess of Dogma or Pretty Persuasion you will be sorely disappointed but if you are a diehard fan of Amy Heckerling films like Clueless, you should find the nostalgia value here to be through the roof.

Liked this a lot years ago. Not entirely sure it stands up to the 5 star rating I gave it, but at least a 4 still. Enjoyed my 2017 rewatch and seeing some of the stars who aren't so popular anymore. Still funny, maybe not quite as biting as it was 10 years ago.

Meh. I found this movie very annoying. It was stereotypical and I didn't really like any of the characters. It had some funny moments and it wasn't as negative as I thought it would be.
